I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your
letter of the 27th ultimo and to inform you that it was with
great regret that Sir F.D.Lugard arrived at the docision communi
cated to you at the interview which you had with him, because he
most fully recognised and appreciated the excellent work you had
done and especially your success in carrying out the inaugura-
tion of a very difficult undertaking without friction: and I am
to convey to you Sir Frederick's cordial appreciation of the
admirable work which you have done for this Government in
connection with the collection of the new imposed duties on liquar
Having now completed the task which you were
appointed to perform you will revert to your substantive post
with the added credit of your achievement.
2.
His Excellency the Officer Administering the
Government desires you to remain in charge of the imports and
Exports sub-department for 40 days after the transfer of Mr,
Tratman in order to instruct that officer in his duties.
